Draft Common Specification - please tell us what you think!

One of the key tasks of EARK project is to provide comprehensive, usable and reliable digital archiving specifications for all three of the OAIS Information Packages (IPs):

  • the Submission Information Package (SIP) for sending data to archives;
  • the Archival Information Package (AIP) for storing the data;
  • and the Dissemination Information Package (DIP) for subsequently accessing the data.

EARK is not just about government data and archives: we are covering data from databases, records systems (ERMSs); and files; and the user groups we are catering for include local and regional archives, as well as national ones, as well as institutional / business archives.

DLM members and its partners in the project have spent a considerable time in developing the Common Specification which outlines the elements that are common to all three IPs. We have now completed this, and the draft can be downloaded from our website: http://www.eark-project.com/resources/specificationdocs/50-draftcommonspec-1/file
